Supermans
Supermans develop correct movement patterns involving the Glutes, Transverse abdominis and Rectus Abdominis. Supermans also strengthen the erector spinae muscles which work to support the lower back. Supermans are a progression from a kneeling bridge exercise and the kneeling leg extensions.
Functional Benefit
Its important to learn how to move the limbs away from the torso whilst maintaining correct core alignment. This is particularly true for the Legs, where activating the Gluteal muscles quite often leads to hyperextension of the back. Supermans train movement patterns to ensure the Torso remains still as the limbs are extended. This can be beneficial with lower back injuries caused from running.
Exercise Technique Tips - Supermans
Ensure Torso remains still with lower back in neutral posture
Straighten back leg in extension, lightly contraction Glute (bum) muscle
Perform movement slowly
