Bicep Curls
Bicep Curls are a low stress movement to develop strength in the upper body. Bicep Curls strengthen the elbow flexors namely the two bicep muscles and brachioradialis (forearm muscle). The movement is safe for most individuals to perform as long as they chose the correct weight. Its important to keep the elbows tucked into the hips and the torso still. If you find you are swinging try lowering the weight. Try to relax the muscles around the upper back and neck
Functional Benefit
The biceps muscle is needed for elbow flexion and has a role in movements such as chin ups and bent over rows. Being a low stress movement its a safe way of older individuals or those with injuries to develop strength and burn energy which may be required for weight loss.
