Energy Balance Calculator
The Energy Balance calculator is a tool which helps create awareness of the importance of nutrition in weight management. In order to use the calculator, insert a kilojoule or kilocalorie amount into the cell. The calculator will return the number of minutes of a given activity required to burn the consumed energy. A table of a few snacks and foods and their kilojoule and kilocalorie values has been included.
To find the energy content of any given food look at the nutritional label on the packaging. The label will give a total energy content per 100grams. Just multiply this number by the weight of the food you consumed. If 100ml's of soft drink contains 125kj's multiply by 6.25 to gain the energy content per 625ml's. Enter this value into the calculator.
If you don't have access to a waist measurement use a average for your gender. Estimating your waist will only slightly effect the output calculation. To measure your waist place a tape measure in line with your navel or half way between your ribs and hip bone. Record the measurement at the end of a standard breath out
